Fadden's for Men: Shopify POS Installation & Training
A complete Shopify POS installation for an Irish menswear retailer, from hardware to staff training to go-live.
Challenge
Fadden's Menswear is a menswear retailer in Castlebar, Co. Mayo. The store was already live on Shopify online, but in person they were running on Meridian, a point-of-sale system with no connection to their Shopify data. That meant two disconnected pictures of the business: separate inventory, separate reporting, and no single source of truth across online and in-store sales. With around 446 products, and staff needing different levels of access, and a mix of in-store-only and online-only pricing to manage, they wanted Shopify POS Pro properly installed, configured, and their team trained and confident on it before their autumn/winter stock began arriving.
Solution
We ran a full discovery process and specified a complete, compatible hardware setup: an iPad Pro, a Shopify POS Terminal, a receipt printer, a cash drawer, and a wireless barcode scanner, each checked against Shopify's supported hardware list rather than over-specifying. Beyond the hardware, we helped advise on and configure staff accounts with permission levels appropriate to each role, and Shopify's Retail Markets so that in-store-only pricing and promotions worked correctly without interfering with the online store. The engagement culminated in a full on-site setup and training day. When the POS Terminal developed a card-payment fault partway through the day, tap and chip failing while manual entry still worked, we diagnosed and resolved it on the spot with a restart and a firmware update, so the day stayed on schedule. Training covered the full team, and because the trickiest area wasn't the till itself but the returns, store credit, and legacy voucher logic tied to their credit-note-only returns policy, we backed the day up with short recorded walkthroughs of those specific workflows for staff to revisit afterward.
Outcome
Fadden's now runs a single, unified system across online and in-store, one set of inventory, one set of reporting, and a team that was trained, supported, and equipped with reference material from day one. Legacy gift vouchers were brought onto the new system through custom payment types, with real-time balance tracking flagged as a natural next phase. It is a good example of omnichannel done properly: not just hardware in a box, but the training, judgment, and on-the-day problem-solving that make a retail team genuinely confident using it.
